Catholic Ten Commandments Of God
God gave the 10 commandments from Mount Sinai accompanied by smoke, earthquakes and trumpets to emphasize the importance of these laws. Moses wrote the words of God in Exodus 20 and recounted the event again in Deuteronomy 5. There is only slight difference in emphasis in the accounts. Both versions are listed below, along with a short list of commands.

The numbering of the commandments in the first three lists below reflects the numbering used in most of Christendom, although Catholics, Jews, and others use different numbering systems (as shown below).
Moses repeated the 10 commandments after 40 years in the desert. There are only a few changes in the text of Exodus 20. These minor variations are found in the fourth, fifth and 10th commandments.

Evangelicals follow a similar number, but reverse what Catholics call the ninth and 10th commandments, following the order described in Exodus 20.

Good or bad, it cannot be denied that the world is constantly changing – be it political, technological, environmental, social, etc. One thing that hasn’t changed is the importance of the Catholic Ten Commandments even in modern times. Although some words and expressions are archaic – you, false witness, do not, etc. -, these centuries-old commandments are as relevant today as they were when God presented them to Moses, long before Jesus. time Here’s how the Ten Commandments translate into modern times.
Who or what do you worship? The only person you should worship is God. When God is at the center of your life—whom you serve, honor, and please—the rest of your moral and spiritual life falls into place. Remember that God is almighty. This commandment also prohibits transferring to any person or thing the power that belongs only to God, such as lucky charms, horoscopes, divination, etc.
Think for a moment that Jesus was tortured and crucified to save you, and then think of all the times you cursed his name, spoke badly of the Catholic faith, or blamed God for your misfortune. These are examples of taking God’s name in vain. God must always and only be honored and glorified with our speech.
To be a practicing Catholic requires action. Our worship of God must be put into regular practice (by attending Sunday mass or Saturday vigil), otherwise our relationship, our faith, our relationship with our Father will fade. Sunday worship should be an integral part of our lives. Unfortunately, for many people, Sunday is a day off from work and school, when we can sleep, relax or “do something fun” – not go to church.
Catholic Ten Commandments In Modern Times
Treating others the way you want to be treated starts with the way you treat your mother, father, grandparents, siblings, etc. Our social interaction is based on our family unit. If we do not honor, love and respect our parents, how can we show the same feelings towards our neighbors?
Our faith teaches us that life belongs to God. Society has evolved in such a way that many people believe that if you find a legitimate reason to take a life, then the reason. (Of course there are exceptions, such as self-defense). This commandment and the Bible remind us that “The Lord kills and gives life; brought him down to the land of the underworld, and resurrected him.” (1 Samuel 2:6)
Adultery existed thousands of years ago and still exists today. Ask yourself: “Am I respecting the physical and sexual dignity of my partner and myself?” “Marriage must be respected by all, and the marriage bed must be dirty. God judges fornication and adultery.” ( Hebrews 13:4 .) Marriage is a union established by God, so committing adultery is a sin against your spouse.
This refers to stealing anything tangible and intangible that does not belong to you. Did you keep the extra change the cashier mistakenly gave you? Do you take on someone else’s hard work at the office or claim someone’s great idea as your own? Did you cheat on your taxes? St. Thomas Aquinas took this commandment one step further when he emphasized in his collection of writings that one violates this commandment by stealing one’s good reputation—by saying or writing things that are unjust or untrue.
A Ten Commandments Prayer
How often do you gossip about someone? Has anyone been defamed? Does anyone judge their actions? Have you betrayed someone’s trust by sharing their personal information? Have you remained silent when others spoke about someone unfairly? Imagine what the world would be like if no one ever used social media and news site comment sections to tear people down, spread rumors, or insult people.
, God reminds us of the slippery slope we put ourselves on when we desire (or desire or want) someone else’s mate, even if we have no plans to act on our impulses: “But I say to you, whoever looks a a. The lustful woman has already committed adultery with him in her heart.” (Matthew 5:28)
“Keeping up with the Joneses” is exactly what this commandment warns against. We can easily fall into the trap of comparing our own lives to others and making it our goal to be what everyone else is. Social media makes it even easier to fall into this jealousy trap and become envious of everyone else’s cars, vacations, relationships, etc… We suddenly feel inadequate and dismiss all our qualities and accomplishments as “not good enough.” Imagine how discouraging it must be to witness this God.
Remember that the Ten Commandments are not suggestions or optional laws that we can apply as and when it suits us. These are the laws given to us by God

To follow every day if we want to remain united with God, make moral decisions and find eternal life. “Lord, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” He answered him: “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is one good one. If you want to enter into life, keep the commandments” (Matthew 19:16-17).
