I decided to tell you a little about the wonderful husband God gave me. We met when he moved into the apartment next to mine, so I’d say I’m married to the boy next door. There is a more romantic version that I will share another time. I think it’s safe to say that Dan almost knows me better than I know myself. He is a wonderful husband, provider and father. Dan is a physician specializing in internal medicine. In medical school I used to call it eternal medicine because the study never seemed to end. He recently changed jobs to be in a more familiar environment, so we are still getting used to having more time. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great, but it takes some time to adjust. He is also great with humor, very gentle and loves the Lord with all his heart.

We got married in July 1984 after knowing each other for about 3 years. I’m still grateful for the opportunity to get to know him better before we got romantically involved. In fact he is 9 years younger than me, so I think romance was the last thing we expected. After becoming very good friends, he told me one day that he felt more than just friendship with me. I did too, but didn’t want to admit it. My most sincere prayer at that time was, “Oh Lord, please don’t let me be a stupid old woman.” – Stupid and old emphasis!

I’m still amazed that this wonderful man is willing to take me with all my “bake”. We were and still are very different. He grew up in a Christian home and dedicated his life to the Lord as a young man. I threw my life away at the age of 19 and the Lord did not allow me to be saved until I was 30 years old; So I had only known the Lord for a few years when we met. I am divorced, and a single mother. I also had a child who was accepted. Messy, to say the least! Don was never married and certainly had no children.

It was only when he asked me to marry him that I understood what he was giving me. He was so innocent and pure and I was fine… I used to say fine. It broke my heart to know that I had nothing to offer him. But this wonderful man said to me: “You are a virgin to me. When you gave your life to the Lord He said He would make you a new creature in Christ and I believe He did. To this day they have never treated me differently. He never brought up my past or threw it in my face. I have his full trust and he treats me like his queen.
