God answered Moses and said, “I myself will pass all my goodness before you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, before you” (Exodus 33:19). And in the next chapter, the Lord descended in a cloud on Mount Sinai, stood with Moses, and there His grace passed before Moses and proclaimed His name: “The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and merciful, slow to anger and many-merciful.” mercy and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity, crimes and sins, but not leaving the guilty unpunished ”(Ex 34, 6-7). Moses wanted to see the glory of God, and God showed him His very nature, which God Himself called His goodness.

Taste and see how good the Lord is! (Ps 34:8) Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good; Sing the praise of His name, for it is beautiful. (Ps 135:3)

All my life you’ve been faithful And all my life you’ve been so, so good With every breath I can take Oh I’ll sing about God’s goodness

Goodness Of God By Jenn Johnson

The lyrics of this song are simply echoes of the songs of the ancient psalmists when they raised their voices in worship and proclaimed the goodness of God. And we all basically agree as we raise our hands and raise our hands to sing the eternal truth that “God is good” on Sunday morning. But the goodness of God is one of those things that we can affirm in the abstract or when things are going our way, but when the time comes and all life hits rock bottom, our confidence in that reality can really be shaken.

Is God good when my life falls apart? Is God good when my child was diagnosed with cancer? Is God good when the love of my life is taken away in an accident? Is God good when children in the Middle East are starving? Is God good when a typhoon hits a small island and 40% of the population is killed in the storm?

To answer these questions, we need to spend time pondering who God is, washing our hearts and minds with the truth of His goodness (Romans 12:2; Ps 77:11-12; Ps 119:15; Ps 142:5) . . . . When God passed before Moses, he roughly describes His goodness revealing Himself as: “merciful, gracious, slow to anger, many-merciful and true, forgiving guilt, crime and sin, and His goodness is also just and in no case will it be” . it means leaving the guilty unpunished, or leaving unpunished the injustices of this world” (Ex 34:6-7). Here and in many other passages of Scripture we see that God is good by definition: He doesn’t just “do good.” God is good by his very nature, and therefore everything he does is good. In other words, there is no good without God, and there is no God without good.

You are good and doing good. (Ps 119:68) The Lord is good to all, and His mercy is on all His works. (Ps 145:9)

Chord: The God I Know

God’s goodness is seen in everything He has done, in everything He does, and in everything He promises to do in the future. God looked at everything He created at creation, and “behold, it was very good” (Genesis 1:31). The goodness of God is revealed day by day in heaven and on earth (Ps. 19:1-2). He makes the sun rise on the righteous and the unrighteous. He makes it rain, flowers grow, and crops ripen (Matthew 5:45; Matthew 6:28-30; Psalm 103:14-15). He upholds and governs every part of Creation by the word of His power (Hebrews 1:3). If that wasn’t enough, in His goodness and kindness to us, He made everything beautiful and gave us feelings to discover and participate in His miracle. We can’t get enough of the smell of rain on the mountains or the splendor of a sunset over the ocean simply because God has chosen to enable us to truly enjoy the greatness of all that He has created. Through Creation, God manifests both unnecessary and extravagant kindness.

We also see the goodness of God in Jesus. Scripture reminds us that Jesus “is the image of the invisible God” (Col. 1:15) and that “God was pleased to dwell in him in all his fullness” (Col. 1:19). When Jesus walked the earth ministering to women, children, the hungry, the poor, the outcast, the oppressed, the sick and
