How Do We Come To Know God – Do you want to know God better? In that case, good news! I have decided to start a new series here on Skildi Bíliuna. I thought about it for a while, but finally I felt the time had come. I recently read Jim Packer’s classic book, Knowing God, and I was again surprised at how good it is to focus on God for a while. After all, this is what the Christian life is all about – knowing God. This is how Jesus described eternal life:
And this life is eternal, so that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you sent. John 17:3
How Do We Come To Know God
This is the purpose of life – to know God. If we’re going to spend eternity with him, we’re going to get to know him well! And the best news is that we can start now.
What Does The Bible Say About Your Purpose?
So wrote the great preacher Ch.Kh. Spurgeon once began a sermon on this subject (Jim Packer quotes this in The Knowledge of God).
The highest science, the highest speculation, the most powerful philosophy that can ever engage the attention of a child of God, is the name, nature, character, work, work, and existence of the great God whom he calls Father… Oh. , in the contemplation of Christ there is balm for every wound; in the thought of the Father there is peace for every sorrow; and under the influence of the Holy Spirit there is a salve for every wound. Would you lose your sadness? Would you drown your worries? Then go, immerse yourself in the deepest sea of divinity; lost in immensity; and you will come out, as from a bed of rest, refreshed and refreshed. I know nothing that can so comfort the soul; so subside the swelling waves of lamentation and lamentation; so speak peace to the winds of trial, as pious meditations on the subject of divinity.
Spurgeon could certainly reverse the phrase! When we look from our circumstances to God, it is extremely comforting. We need to look less at ourselves and our circumstances and more at our Creator. Knowing God is not just an intellectual exercise—though it is good for our minds because it helps us think—but it is a great comfort. When we see how great God is, we realize that He is bigger than all our problems!
First of all, we get to know God by getting to know his word, the Bible. God has revealed himself to us in his word and we get to know him by reading him. However, in my experience, a little guidance can be very helpful in this regard: truth about God is everywhere in the Bible. But there is no place where God just comes out and says it all in a nutshell. We need to dig a little and remember many different places throughout the Bible.
Get To Know God
This is where we need a road map, a guide to help us navigate the Bible clearly. For this series I will be using the Anglican 39 Articles. The first article is “On Belief in the Holy Trinity”, which says:
There is but one living and true God, eternal, without body, parts, or passions; of infinite strength, wisdom, and goodness; Creator and protector of all things visible and invisible. And in the unity of this Godhead there are three persons, of one essence, power, and eternity; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Ok, I know this is pretty tight! But as a base it’s great. This will help guide us as we begin to look at who God is. We’re going to break it down and take it piece by piece.
In each part of the session we look at the Bible and what it says and then think about what it means to us. In other words, this series will be practical. My goal is not only to help you think about God, but also to inspire your own faith.
God Is… Infinitely Good
I will be posting them here on the blog in the coming weeks. When they are ready, I hope there will be a video tutorial.

OKPrivacy PolicyI don’t like to travel without knowing the specific direction to my destination. GPS is great, the little lady tells you every turn you need to take. The problem with GPS is that if we’re not careful, we rely on hearing directions while driving and don’t pay attention to learning them. How many times have you driven or followed another person to a destination, but couldn’t get back because you didn’t learn to turn. Walking with God is the same way. It’s nice to hear the journey we have to go through to please God in our lives, but it means so much more when we know what pleases God. (1Cor 1:9 The faithful God, who called you to fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord). There are times when you just can’t see through the darkness that seems to cover you. It is in those times of endurance and patience that your faith is strengthened and you learn to trust God, even when you cannot hear His voice. You must know that God keeps His word! You must reach the point where it is better to know that God keeps His promises than to hear Him perform. You can rest assured knowing that God knows what is going on in your life and He knows the next steps. Knowing is better than hearing! Pastor Don [image: image.png]

Why We Should Get To Know The Bible

God started by creating one man and from him came all the different people who live in the whole world. God decided exactly when and where they should live. [27] God wanted them to look for him and perhaps look for him everywhere and find him, although he is not far from any of us. Acts 17:26-27
When some friends in college asked me if I wanted to go to Bible study with them, I thought, “Sure, why not?”
My goal was not to know God, I was just curious. I didn’t know much about the Bible and found it interesting to learn about these stories.
Need To Know God: Free Essay Sample
In these Bible courses, I got more than I expected. I quickly learned that the Bible is not just a book of stories or a book of wisdom. The Bible is a book about God; the words of the bible are his words to me. After reading it, I realized that God loves me so much that He allowed me to be in the right place at the right time to have a relationship with Him.
Meeting God changed my life and was the best decision I could have made. I have learned to find lasting happiness that is independent of my circumstances. I learned how to build healthy relationships with people. I discovered that God had a purpose for my life that was greater than anything I could have imagined.
I will not stop thanking God for you. I always remember you in my prayers [17] where I ask God our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, to give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation so that you can know him better. Ephesians 1:16-17
