As you incorporate these activities into your life (except for the first one, because you learn from Jesus himself), you will find that your relationship with God grows.
One last thing before we get down to it, joining a local New Testament church is a great way to get closer to God.
After you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, the next step in obedience is to be baptized into a true New Testament church. I really mean one that follows all the principles of Jesus.
It is not enough to choose an old church. Make sure the principles are biblical. That’s more important than a feel-good church with basketball courts and weekend parties, (but that’s a topic for another blog post.)

Baptism and true church membership keep you in line with God’s will. After all, that’s our goal, right?
One of the best ways to get closer to God is to open your Bible every day. It doesn’t matter if you read your Bible, Study the Bible, do daily devotions, spending time in God’s Word will bring you closer to the Lord.
The Bible is God’s instruction. If you don’t know what’s out there, you’ll never understand how to play the game of life successfully according to God’s rules. It is no wonder that you will find many Bible verses that draw you closer to God. You will find many of them scattered here in this post.

Are You Waiting For God To Bless You?
I don’t know about you, but I long to hear my Heavenly Father say, “Though the good and faithful servant.” However, remember to pray first. Personally, I wish God had opened my heart before I started studying His Word!
“Pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17 KJV. It contains Paul’s instructions on how to get closer to God. Talk to God. Prayer is a gift. Praise Him, thank Him, pray to Him for others and yourself. Prayer is simply speaking to God through His Son Jesus Christ.
Even if you don’t know what to say or the burden on your heart is too much to put into words, the Holy Spirit will pray for us when that happens because He always knows our hearts.
A great way to build your prayer life is to create a custom battle folder or prayer journal, which is a notebook with different sections documenting your journey with God. Romans 8:26 KJV tells us that the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we ought to pray, but the Spirit himself prayeth for us with groanings that cannot be uttered.
We can associate with our worldly friends who can lead us away from God, or we can associate with other Christians who understand God and His instructions. These friends encourage us to draw closer to the Lord. These are truly the best friends you will ever have because they care about you, heart and soul.
If you think you are in control of your life more than God is, think again. God has a plan for your life. Our task is to follow God’s will and live according to His plan. That doesn’t mean we’re dummies and can’t set goals.
We are cursed with privilege and free will. It is a privilege because He allows us to choose. But it is a curse because if we make a bad choice, we suffer the consequences of that choice. Your best plan is to seek God’s will for your life and humble yourself before Him. Let him lead you.

Matthew 23:11-12 But let him who is greatest among you be your servant. And whoever exalts himself will be humbled. And whoever humbles himself will be exalted. Philippians 2:3 Do nothing out of strife or conceit. But in a humble state of mind, everyone should consider others better than themselves.
If we want a close relationship with God, we must keep His commandments and put all other Gods before him and love others besides ourselves. By obeying His second commandment, we serve others. Doing His will by serving means following the scriptures to get closer to God.

If there is unrepentant sin in your life, the Lord will not hear your prayers. So Accept it friends and turn away from those sins. I have a friend who recently died of cancer. He always asked for prayers. But when he did, he added, “But repent first, I want God to hear those prayers.”

We want to be spiritually close to God, so confess your sins and repent or turn away from them.
We all show love in our lives. There is love for your spouse, children and friends and then there is agape love. This love shows God’s matchless, matchless love for mankind.
Jesus demonstrated agape love when he paid the ransom for all mankind on the cross of Calvary. He showed love to people who hated him, and he wants us to show the same love to others. It is easy to love those who love us. But it’s important to love those who don’t love back.

We have so much to be thankful for in our lives. Where do those blessings come from? Of course from God! Part of our prayer life is to thank the Lord for the many blessings He gives us.
I’m not talking about our stuff. Of course, we are grateful for our family, home and health. But recognize our freedom and privilege, the air we breathe, nature beautiful to our eyes, and above all, the salvation of our souls.
