One contestant was among the most popular artists of the Eurovision 2019 final: Sanmarin Serhat.

The Turkish singer, who previously represented San Marino at Eurovision 2016, gave a particularly energetic performance in Saturday’s final.

Evangeline Duran Fuentes Quote: “nana Always Said The Rain Was Nature’s Way Of Adding Sparkle To

Viewers took to social media to rave about his performance and hoped that the singer and TV presenter would be rewarded with many points.

In many ways, “Say Na Na Na” is set up to be a crowd pleaser: it’s a catchy, easy-to-sing tune with lyrics that stick in your head long after it’s over.

Music correspondent Roisin O’Connor, who said she was “smiling so much after that performance”, found the song “funny and catchy and completely otherworldly”.

Let’s get to work. First-timers Serbia returned home as champions with this dramatic ballad. By the time the extravaganza was well and truly established, the production was remarkably bare. Orchestra, belts, key changes and five backing singers dressed as a cross between beauty queens and security guards seem like the pinnacle of modern opera.

Song: Na Na Na By Now United

Has Eurovision seen anything like it before or since? Finland’s first victory in 45 years of participation came at the hands of a heavy metal band dressed in monstrous costumes – but this assessment is not based solely on novelty. Behind the screeching vocals and pyrotechnics, “Hard Rock Hallelujah” is a pretty cool song – even for those who normally can’t stand such things. The backing vocals in the chorus are especially high. It also provided a welcome departure from the high-octane pop festival that many believe Eurovision to be.

The jewel in Ireland’s seven-win crown is this stopper from Logan who returned and looked every inch the matinee idol in his pristine white suit. It’s the kind of power ballad fist-pumping was made for, and its big upgrade on “I’ll Always Love You” should win another award for most ambitious key change.

Carola, one of Sweden’s most popular artists, captivates from the moment she steps on stage and lets out her first “Woah-oh-oh!”. Her voice is flawless, the key changes are great, and who doesn’t appreciate a windbreaker? Another slice of Scandinavian pop perfection.

An energetic pop song with colorful young performers and fun choreography, “Making Your Mind Up” is the stuff Eurovision is made of. The famous moment when the boys ripped off the girls’ skirts to reveal shorter skirts underneath is one of the most famous moments of the pageant. The song, which became a number one hit across Europe that year, remains as infectious today as ever.

Celine Dion was only 20 years old when she attracted international attention with this performance. The track itself is great – a French chanson worthy of Edith Piaf, with a slightly twee drum machine that ramps up the beat for the bop chorus. All of this happened before Celine turned into the eternal queen of power ballads (check out the pageant-style hair and dress), but it’s exciting to hear how perfect her vocals were even back then. Oh, the hand choreography was on track too.

The beautiful fusion of Hammond organ, tambourine, hand clapping and the seemingly spiritual lyrics themselves feels like a glorious anthem – and Katrina really takes it to church. One of the best goalscorers in modern times, the UK last won the competition a day after Labour’s landslide election victory in 1997. What a time to be alive.

Conchita’s performance had everything you could want from Eurovision. Elegant yet ferocious, “Rise Like a Phoenix” could rival the best Bond theme and is easily one of the most timeless of all the winners. The big band adds goosebump-inducing charm to everything from that dramatic orchestral ascent to the final chorus. It was also a powerful moment for LGBT+ visibility; this song’s theme of triumph over adversity has secured it as an anthem for those who have survived life.

It’s hard to pick another recent winner that comes close to current chart-toppers like ‘Euphoria’ – a dance hit that many of today’s pop stars would kill for. Euphoria, written by Swede Thomas G:son – he has produced more than 90 songs for Eurovision contestants in various countries – is built around clever pop samples. The chorus alone is anthemic perfection, but when Loreen belts out, “We’re going up, up, up…” she’s incredible. The Kate Bush-esque performance was an added bonus.

ABBA took to the stage at the competition in 1974 and gave Sweden an international reputation as masters of pop. ABBA, early proponents of the kind of kitsch that would exemplify the show, used their platform to offer a taste of the cultural phenomenon they would later become. From the opening piano, to the transition between the minor bridge and the major chorus, to the catchy hooks sprinkled throughout, “Waterloo” is a master class in how to write a hit, and the song has rightfully become one of the best sellers. singles of all time. ABBA continues to influence Eurovision contestants today, and while you may have a different favorite, “Waterloo” is a song that most agree is a true golden classic. We promise to love you forever.

“Serhat always throws a party, wouldn’t mind if ‘Say Na Na Na’ gets great points,” another person tweeted.
