In the Hebrew tradition “calling” someone by “name” is something close to “identifying” someone. Likewise, ministering priests are like God the Father, begotten in spirit and nature. As some theologians have pointed out, a ministerial priest is more like God the Father than a learned father. When a ministering priest baptizes a child, he brings new spiritual life. By word and spirit he “begets” a soul, raising it from death. This is similar to how God created the soul as the birth of evil. True fatherhood is essentially spiritual. So when Jesus said, “Call no one your father on earth, for you have a Father in heaven,” he was emphasizing that all ancestors are in God the Father, and that every human father is only a divine image. . father
Nevertheless, Jesus and the apostles addressed people as “father” in their teaching and conversation. For example, in Luke 16:24, Jesus tells a parable in which he refers to Israel’s patriarch as “father Abraham.” Likewise, Paul, in his letter to the Romans, calls Abraham “the father of all . . . believers” (Romans 4:11). A few steps later, St. Paul also called Abraham “the father of us all” (Romans 4:16). In his letter to the Philippians, Timothy “was like a son with the Father . . . laboring with me in the gospel” (Phil 2:22). In his first letter to the Corinthians, Paul said, “I am a father to you in Christ Jesus through the gospel” (1 Cor. 4:15). This is very important because you are claiming the spiritual role of Father for yourself.
