Is God The Father Of Jesus Christ – Dr. John Bergsma is Professor of Theology at Franciscan University of Stephenville. A former Protestant pastor, Dr. Bergsma has written several books on the Bible and the Catholic faith.
Let’s discuss calling priests “Father.” When Jesus said in Matthew 23:9, “Do not call anyone on earth your father, for you have a Father who is in heaven,” did Jesus really mean to drive home a point by using strong keywords? I’d say it’s the latter. Catholics were criticized for this because Catholics call priests “Father”.
Is God The Father Of Jesus Christ
When Jesus said, “Do not call anyone on earth your father, for you have a Father in heaven,” he was using a word established in the Hebrew Scriptures. In the Hebrew tradition “calling” someone by “name” is something close to “identifying” someone. For example, when the prophet Isaiah said of the Messiah, “His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace,” he certainly did not mean that those titles were the Messiah’s name in general. . by his contemporaries. None of Jesus’ contemporaries, not even the apostles, called him that. Rather, the “name” here refers to the subject, and Isaiah describes the character of the Messiah, who, by his very nature, is a “mighty God” who shares the essence of the “wonderful counselor” (Holy Spirit). and “Eternal Father” (God the Father).
Jesus Is God
So, in this Hebrew tradition, when Jesus said, “Call no one on earth your father,” what he meant was, “Recognize no one on earth as your father in its meaning, because there is only one Father, namely God the Father, in nature and in reality.” ” In fact, all other fathers, even their own fathers, are false fathers, because God is the true Father who begets children as only He as God can do. When you were conceived, God created your heart “new” and ex nihilo “out of nothing.” That is the true father!
Your biological father did not create anything de novo or ex nihilo. Your biological father added to your body in physical activity, God did in a wonderful way, but completely natural and according to the laws of the body. In a very real sense, your physical father is the only father in comparison, meaning that the position of human fatherhood is the same as the position of true fatherhood exercised only by God. Another way we can look at it is that we can call our fathers “Dad” only because God is our true Father. Every birth is a reflection of the fatherhood of God the Father, as St. Paul said: “I bow my knees before the Father, who has named all Fathers [Greek Patria] in heaven and on earth” (Ephesians 3:14 –15, my translation).
Likewise, ministering priests are like God the Father, begotten in spirit and nature. As some theologians have pointed out, a ministerial priest is more like God the Father than a learned father. When a ministering priest baptizes a child, he brings new spiritual life. By word and spirit he “begets” a soul, raising it from death. This is similar to how God created the soul as the birth of evil. True fatherhood is essentially spiritual. So when Jesus said, “Call no one your father on earth, for you have a Father in heaven,” he was emphasizing that all ancestors are in God the Father, and that every human father is only a divine image. . father
Nevertheless, Jesus and the apostles addressed people as “father” in their teaching and conversation. For example, in Luke 16:24, Jesus tells a parable in which he refers to Israel’s patriarch as “father Abraham.” Likewise, Paul, in his letter to the Romans, calls Abraham “the father of all . . . believers” (Romans 4:11). A few steps later, St. Paul also called Abraham “the father of us all” (Romans 4:16). In his letter to the Philippians, Timothy “was like a son with the Father . . . laboring with me in the gospel” (Phil 2:22). In his first letter to the Corinthians, Paul said, “I am a father to you in Christ Jesus through the gospel” (1 Cor. 4:15). This is very important because you are claiming the spiritual role of Father for yourself.
In His Inn We Find And Deepen Our Relationship With God, Our Father, & Jesus Christ
Perhaps the most interesting of all these examples is 1 John, the apostle said: “I am writing to you, fathers, who you have known from the beginning. Young people, I am writing to you because you have overcome Esh. Children, I am writing to you because you know the Father.” (1 John 2:13-14).
Now, most commentators, going back to the Church Fathers, do not think that St. , and “young men” refers to all the males of the congregation between fifteen and twenty-five, and “sons” refers to youths fourteen years of age.
No, the context begs us to understand these words as aspects of spiritual growth and/or contribution to the church community. Even Protestant commentators would agree that “fathers” may correspond to the presbyters or “elders” (Greek presputeroi) of the church; “Youths” refer to Christians who have completed the foundation, that is, those who have completed the foundation and are growing in their faith; And the “children” are the newly ordained, or in other words, the catechumens.
One of the chief apostles was the first to address Christian presbyters (priests) as “Father,” and he did so in the most sacred pages.

In Jesus and the Old Testament Roots of the Priesthood, biblical scholar John Bergsma assures readers that, in fact, Jesus intended a servant priesthood to be an integral part of the New Testament.
Bergsma shows that the priesthood is an important thread that ties together the biblical story line—the loss of Adam’s priestly gift in the Fall and the long process of restoring his descendants to the priesthood over the centuries, culminating in Christ. This month we celebrate Father’s Day as we thank God for serving as our Heavenly Father and accepting us into His family. Today, we invite you to reflect on these 10 verses and learn how God loves and cares for us as a Father – and how He calls us to live as His children.
As our Heavenly Father, God is our guide and protector, and He promises to watch over us always. Dawn of Time, He is, and He will be; Nothing is beyond His power and nothing beyond His knowledge. When we face trials and uncertainties, we can rest under His wings of love, confident that He is weaving the threads of our lives into the glorious tapestry of God’s plan.
Psalm 68:5-6 BM – “Sing to God, praise his name; exalt him who rides on the clouds. Rejoice before him whose name is the Lord. Father of the fatherless, defender of widows – God is your holy dwelling place.”
Who Is God The Father Within The Trinity?
Jacob 1:16-18 BMY – “Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers: every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming from the Father of lights, changing or changing and not shadow. He wants to beget us through the word of truth, so that we may be the firstfruits of his creatures.”
Luke 12:32 PM – “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s will to give you the kingdom.” – Bibles
2 Corinthians 6:16b, 18 BMY – “I will dwell among them, and I will walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. The Lord Almighty.”
As the Creator who lovingly made us in His own image, God our Father calls us to show His love in our lives. Not only did God send us His Son to die on the cross and save us from our sins, but He wants to be involved in our lives, helping us become more like Him every day.
Son Of God
Isa 63:16 – Although Abraham knew us, and Israel did not know us, you are our Father; Lord, you are our Father; Your name is the old savior.
1 Corinthians 8:6 BMY – But we have one God, the Father, from whom all things came, from whom we exist, one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we exist and through whom we exist.
Luke 6:35-36 BM – But love your enemies, do good, and do good, expecting nothing in return. Your reward will be many, and you will be the son of the great; For he shows mercy to the ungrateful and the wicked. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.”
