Nicholas Sparks adaptations have become something of an annual event, it seems. Of course, it’s not actually true, but it feels true, which is what all movies strive for in order to achieve the success of this film as an adaptation of a tear-jerking romance novel. It all started with Message in a Bottle in 1999, and then there was the Mandy Moore movie A Walk to Remember in 2002. The greatest film in this series of romantic fantasy, however, seems to be The Notebook, a film that is even romantic. . The movie haters were definitely a “very decent movie” for me at one point or another.
Now, I admit that I picked parts of the story from this movie based on footage I watched on various trips back home, mostly while my older sister was still living at home. There were also maybe two or three good attempts, where I tried to follow the film honestly before something else distracted me and I had to move on. However, when I started Girly Movie Month this month, I knew this would eventually be reviewed, because the term “girly movie” is what comes to mind when I think of girly movie.
After finally seeing the movie in one sitting, I feel like I can honestly sit down with anyone who’s ever told me it’s a “decent” movie and say to their face, “It’s as full as you no.”
The Notebook’s Ending Is Different On Netflix, And People Are Freaking Out
Okay, yeah, maybe not that overtly, but, man, The Notebook was like two hours of watching Rachel McAdams play a rich and beautiful girl, Allie, who makes up her mind. . Gosling. When he regains consciousness, Noah is basically sitting on the sidelines, spinning in his absence and rebuilding the house he hoped to live in while he thinks about another poor man injured in a marital war. It happens and develops. a reverse case of Florence Nightingale syndrome before she finally proposed to her. Both men apparently served in World War II, though that fact is quickly established within a minute of screen time — World War II is just a quick narrative device here to remind people. What period were they in? the film moves and creates a distance between two paths. . Although the injuries and losses that both of them suffered in the war may not compare to the pain that this girl is going through. At least the Nazis were expected to shoot them. Allie is a selfish supporter, which doesn’t mean Noah isn’t to blame either, since he’s cheating on a war widow who seems like a pretty smart person when it comes to hooking up old flames.
Basically, The Notebook is like watching hyper-sensual porn, a very nice look for girls who want to have the pleasure of being made by the perfect man, but also feel under his control. The film seems to be going through a bit of a surreal fantasy where a girl and her family can cheat the man she loves, but he is still justified in his actions. I’m all for flawed heroes, but I also hope the movie shows results. When she finally makes up her mind about who to be with, after taking advantage of everything both men give her in the process, the film basically makes up her mind and then the character completely falls apart because that it no longer serves. plot device – like two friends Noah and Allie and their two fathers, come to think of it.
The film has a parallel story that also serves as a framing device for the period romance of two young lovers: an elderly couple in a modern nursing home. The woman in this relationship, played by Gena Rowlands, is beautiful and wears expensive jewelry, but she has Hollywood dementia, which comes and goes in various forms at the whim of the filmmakers. A friend of hers, James Garner, meets her every day to read the book that contains the story of the young couple. The doctors tell her that the dementia is irreversible, and she won’t remember anything in the morning. He says it doesn’t matter, because he’s hoping for a miracle. Chances are you’ve noticed the huge number of clues that have dropped, all of which preceded the late-game reveal, when old Allie suddenly realizes over a candlelit dinner that Allie and Noah are from their book. Instead of adding a bit of nuance to the story, this just makes the already convoluted and badass movie feel. How much easier and more meaningful could it be to contrast the real-life story of an elderly couple with the story of a romance novel, showing the differences and similarities between fantasy romance and realistic love?
The movie is not that smart. And it gets pretty clever with the audience, too, right up to a flashy conclusion in which the apparently elderly couple venture into the big world, where they seem to have been reincarnated as birds—a throwback to another movie. striking visuals, and the only time in the film where the audience is asked to remember something that has already happened, rather than go along.
Despite incredibly strong performances from their four leads, they can only do so much with the material they’re given. Their characters are really nothing more than generic character templates. Text is at least a transcendental subject. This is the stereotypical romance story. I realize I’m not their target demographic, but I’d like to think I can understand a good story on my own, and not all girls seem to let the movie get the best of them either. , as I have heard from many girls who are happy
