The premiere of Sauti Mpya last September was the best season of Hindi films scheduled on the channel in the four years I watched it and introduced me to a wide variety of fun and entertaining films.

But unlike either of those two (good) films, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na eschews political or historical elements to focus firmly on the story at hand.

Sometimes a movie doesn’t make the grade. Aditi jokingly writes “I’m gay” on Jai’s arm and Jai fools two drunken men into rushing a girl by lying to them that she has AIDS, which really makes me hope that any sexually transmitted disease is used for comedy purposes. .
Despite this, the film is generally enjoyable. It opened with a melodrama of the title track that misled me into thinking the songs weren’t very memorable – I’ve started hearing them on the radio and they’ve come to mind. Perhaps unsurprisingly, I later discovered that the film had a soundtrack by AR Rahman, one of Bollywood’s most successful composers.
