Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na Music – Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na was the highlight of the last season of Bollywood on Channel 4 for me, but he faced stiff competition.
Last September’s New Voices was the best season of Hindi movies the channel has planned in the four years I’ve watched them, and introduced me to many interesting and thought-provoking films.

It included six films from new directors, with no duff among them (so no Mahal, Hydrabad Blues 2 or Mangel Panday from previous years). But it was Jaan Tu Ya Jaan Na (translation: you may or may not know it) who stole the show from me.

It’s basically a fun post-teen drama and produced by Aamir Khan with all of its production values taken from producer/starring Laagan and Rang De Basanti.
But unlike either of those two (awesome) films, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na eschews political or historical issues to focus firmly on a coming-of-age narrative.
The 2008 film is set in and around the University of Mumbai and follows a boy (Imran Khan’s Jai) meets a girl (Aditi played by Genelia) a boy meets a girl, loses the girl and they eventually end up in the airport. the diversity.
In the accompanying introduction, director Abbas Tirawalla says he had to reminisce about his university days.

It follows the film with a very effective “story told in flashback”, complete with a well-paced story arc.
The description gives enough depth to the supporting cast with a strong emphasis on Jai and Aditya, making it a two-lead ensemble piece.
Of course, it adheres to some general teen movie aspirational standards. Sure, a few friends have cars, but there’s more to the story than one would expect from such a comparison.
Several times he did not rate the film. Aditi jokingly writes “I’m gay” on Jai’s arm while Jai tricks two drunken guys into lying about a girl with AIDS making me wish all other sexually transmitted diseases were used for comedy.

Despite these incidents, the movie as a whole was very entertaining. It opens with a deafening song that makes the songs not memorable – I heard them on the radio and they immediately came to mind. I may have learned later that the movie was directed by one of Bollywood’s most famous composers, A.R. I found out that Rahman is a different movie with a soundtrack. Hindi movies are usually at least two and a half hours long, and with a young family, I’m not time-rich. So the best compliment I can give a Bollywood movie is that I want to watch it a second time. With Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, I can’t wait to watch it for the third time soon.

Where Tirawala falters is in structuring the main story as a life lesson given to another pair of “best friends”, a boring device that slows the pace and leads to a terrible finale.
