Moreen Nantume Songs – Maureen Nantume is a beautiful and talented singer from the popular Golden Band, a spin-off group of Eagles Production. His single Sili ndojoyi, which condemned women with too much work, attracted the attention of a large audience and firmly launched him among the stars of Afro-pop music.

Although Nantume has been a star for more than a decade, he remains humble. Born to Robinah Nakitenda, an onion seller, Nantume’s mother struggled financially to raise him and his two siblings. Circumstances worsened when his mother died in 1996.

“My mother’s death deprived me of all hope for a better future. This meant that my education had to be interrupted, and the worst part was that I had to look for accommodation. At that time, I had to look for a job with a salary and accommodation,” Nantume recalls.

After struggling with school fees for a while, the future star left school in Senior Three in 2002 while at Agro-Link in Namasuba.

“After my mother’s funeral, some members of my mother’s family agreed to give my brother and sister to their family, unfortunately no one knew who my father was, so I was left alone with no option,” says Nantume.

Soon after the burial, she got a job in Namasuba as a domestic helper where she worked for three years earning a monthly salary of Shs 15,000. Despite his bad luck, Nantume still cherishes his dream of becoming a famous singer one day.

In contrast to the harsh experiences that domestic workers go through, Nantume has nothing but praise for her former employer. He believes that working for this family was part of his destiny because his employer encouraged him to try his luck in a group audition, which led to his career. He also believes that being a domestic helper is a solid enterprise if treated humanely and paid well, and it can be a path to a bright future.

Nantume said: “My enemies sometimes use my experience against me by calling me a derogatory name given to the maid mukomba bookisi (flat sleeve) not knowing that this work paved my way to stardom.

Nantume emphasized that even though her peers bullied her for working as a maid, she said she never moved because her concerns were above the bullies.

“My employer was my friend and is still my friend. He loved me very much because I was a very hardworking person. I loved him very much and he was like a mother to me. He allowed me to do my work with headphones in that I would listen to music on the radio. I loved singing every song and he never had a problem with it,” recalls Nantume.

“The boss told me that I have a good voice and that I should go to the auditions, which I did,” says Nantume.

The auditions attracted more than 100 singers. He remembers being bullied by people who already looked like stars and managed themselves with enviable ease.

“Compared to them, I looked like the girlfriend I was. However, I was excited when the judges told me to sing Big Daddy Betty Mpologome which was one of my favorite songs. I sang it many times while working, so I felt comfortable,” Nantume said.

After the auditions, the group was told to go home and listen to CBS Radio where they would be announced as successful.

“I can’t describe how excited I was when I heard my name among the five chosen. It was one of the best days of my life. I felt so happy – the singer said.

It was official, Nantume was part of the Eagles Production Group where he sang backing vocals for any senior group member who wanted to work with him, including Mesarch Ssemakula, Ronald Mayinja, Catherine Kusasira, Stecia Mayanja, Fred Mais, Geofrey Lutaaya, Sophie. Nantongo and Irene Namatov, among many others.

“At that time, I had to part ways with my employer in Namasuba, because we were working long hours and traveling long distances. Together with two other girls who had just joined the group, we rented a room that we shared from 2003 to 2005 – she says.

Although his career has changed for the better, Nantume’s financial situation has not changed. As a backup singer, he was paid Shs 5,000 per performance. For his modest salary, he had to pay rent, buy food, clothes and transport himself to work.

“My life has become more difficult. It was difficult to survive on the quality of salary. However, I did not regret it for a second. I was not an exception, all around me backed singers living the same life. That comforted me. But more importantly, I knew it was only a matter of time before my luck would change,” he said happily.

It was after three years at Eagles Production that they wrote him a song called Sili Ndogoyi, a song that launched his career and he started doing solo.

“Under the guidance of Mesarch Ssemakula of Eagles Production, I continued to strive and released more songs and slowly built a fan base and soon I was performing on my own as a singer outside the group.

“In 2006, I got a gig at the Nabweru football ground and I earned Sh80,000, it was too much money and I couldn’t believe it was me. I never made much money until this moment. Since then, I have earned the highest amount of money, but for me it will always be my most interesting payment ever, ” Nantume said in bewilderment.

The following year, Nantume released three songs: Abakozi Ba Safari, Oyitiriza Okungeyengula and Nkwagala nyo which received frequent airplay on local stations. The songs made him his first opening act (Kwanjula) for which he was paid Shs 400,000.

Things were finally looking up for Nantume. He quickly realized that his music was popular at Kwanjula festivals, so he focused solely on that.

In 2012, he released the song Kiyungu which made him show more, doing about two launches and two weddings in one day.

Singer Maureen Nantume Started Out As A Maid

Although Nantume repeatedly chooses not to speak publicly about family matters, the wife and mother of two daughters revealed that she is happily married to a family with several disadvantaged children that she cares for through her successful Nkuzza Foundation.

Nantume did not know who his father was until 2010 when someone noticed that he looked like a Denis Ssekizyivu from Masaka. Refusing to go into detail about a subject that is still visibly painful for him, he said that when he finally met Ssekizyiyu, it turned out that he was his father.

“My immediate family and friends know the story of finding my biological father. Over time, he received different versions that were told differently. It is true, I met my father when I was already a popular singer and well done. However, I am satisfied with the relationship with him as a person,” emphasizes Nantume.

He notes that in addition to running his shop, he is a small farmer on the rise who, among other things, also deals with poultry.

After being bitten by the farming bug, Nantume noted that in addition to making more good music and maintaining his business, he is working hard to own a large farm to raise animals or crops.

Unlike most local musicians who are lost in the superficial world forgetting about important investments for themselves, Nantume sits and concentrates.

Away from the stage, she is a sharp woman, hardworking and focused determined to create as much wealth as possible for herself and her family.

“The group’s music changed my life. When I joined Eagles’ Production, Ssemakula, who is one of the founders of the group, instilled in me the character of humility. He also taught me that the best measure of wealth is not how many designer clothes you have in your closet or how flash the car you drive, but it is the investment you made and the money you saved in the bank,” said Nantume. .
