Mark prepares chapter 4 of his gospel to emphasize that Jesus intends to reveal the mystery of God’s kingdom to his people through his parables. Luke learns this but does not highlight it through his rhetorical structure.
, “Coming.” A more literal translation is “the lamp comes,” which refers to a person, not an object. A lamp is a person who is the source of light. Since this parable also follows the parable of the sower, since it is Jesus who sows the seeds, this can only mean that he is the light of the parable.
Just as Jesus sowed the word in the previous parable, He is the lamp that gives light. This is part of what he does in the mystery of the kingdom of God. Referring to his incarnation, John wrote: “The true light that gives light to all has come into the world” (John 1:9).
Mark 4:22: For [verb, passive] nothing is hidden [adjective] except it is revealed [verb, passive = passive] and nothing is hidden [verb, active] light.
Parables Of Jesus In The Bible
Luke 8:17: For there is nothing hidden that does not [verb, middle] reveal, [verb, verb] nothing is hidden that is not known [verb, passive] that does not come to light.
These verses do not indicate who is doing the action; He has no name. Verbs are passive, except when they are clearly related to light. All this shows that we cannot reveal and hide the mystery of the kingdom of God. Coming to light is what makes light.
Things are hidden, but there is a purpose – so they can be revealed at the right time or point. The kingdom of God is hidden, but it cannot remain so. All the apparent secrets of the gospel, the identity of Jesus and all his saving work aim to reveal the kingdom of God.
Remember that this parable follows the parable of the sower. In it Jesus highlights how faith is born and kept alive as many of the seeds sown die in different soils (representing different people).

The common characteristic is that these people receive the faith (seed) as a one-time action and it is not strengthened. Their faith is either torn, starved, or suffocated.

To understand the blessings and to be salt and light as God’s people, we must understand Jesus’ fulfillment of the Old Testament law.
Reflection On The Parable Of The Mustard Seed.
Leviticus 2:13: You [Old Testament priests] shall season all your grain offerings with salt. Never leave the salt of your God’s covenant out of your food offerings. You must salt each of your victims.
All the sacrifices of the Old Testament pointed to Christ’s sacrifice for our salvation. So he performs not only grain offering but also salt. Just as saltless food is tasteless, so salt makes the sacrificial bread more palatable, and shows more fully how the Saviour’s sacrifice is acceptable to God.
God gave Ezekiel words to confront Israel with unfaithfulness. Lack of salt here represents lack of faith.
Again the word of the Lord came to me [Ezekiel]: “Son of man, confront Jerusalem with her abominations. You shall say: Thus says the Lord God to Jerusalem: …You have not washed or anointed with water; You were not rubbed with salt or wiped.’ (Ezekiel 16:1-4)
Why Jesus Spoke In Parables
This text shows that Jesus is our salt because he is the firstborn wrapped in cloth for us (Luke 2:7). This verse is prophetic by pointing to baptism (1 Peter 3:21) and confirmation (Cor 1:21; 1 John 2:27).

The Difference Between The Kingdom Of God And The Kingdom Of Heaven
1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, so declare the wonders of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
Evangelism is the interaction of words [preaching Jesus] and actions [let your light shine] that come together in one’s daily calling. We looked at Jesus’ parables. Today I want to look at those related to the Kingdom of Heaven.
What do we know about the Kingdom of God? The kingdom of God in heaven or the kingdom of God on earth? We can learn a lot by looking at these parables and understanding Jesus’ description. What did Jesus say about the Kingdom of God? Is it pride? Is it only for the rich? Is it only for perfect people? The most important thing we need to know about the kingdom of God is how to get there, but today I want to share with you what Jesus taught.
Jesus used ordinary scenes from everyday life to teach new truths about the kingdom of God. The wonderful thing is that we can experience these truths here on earth to prepare for the glorious day when Jesus will come to take him to heaven. I’m waiting for the glorious day, are you?
The Parables Of The Kingdom
Let’s start with Matthew 13, and one is also found in Mark 4. In these parables, Jesus begins after saying, “The kingdom of God…” or “The kingdom of heaven…” Tells a story.
