] the kingdom of God” (Mark 4:11, Luke 8:10). He speaks about this in the parable of the lamp (Mark 4:21-25, Luke 8:16-18). Therefore, the following parable is about revealing the mysteries of God’s kingdom, not about people or their ways.

Parables Of Jesus

Mark sets up chapter 4 of his Gospel to focus on Jesus’ parables to reveal the secret of God’s kingdom to his people. Luke teaches this, but does not illustrate it with his rhetorical structure.

, “is coming.” A more literal translation is: “Culture is coming”, which refers to a person, not something. A lamp is a person who is a source of light. Since this parable also follows the parable of the sower, where Jesus is the one who sows the seed, it can only mean that he is the light of the parable.

Just as Jesus sows the Word in the first parable, so it is with the Lamp that shines. This is part of what He does in the mystery of the Kingdom of God. John listens to his intuition, John wrote: “The true light, which enlightens everyone, has come into the world” (John 1:9).

Mark 4:22: For nothing is hidden [adverb] except it be revealed [verb, passive] and nothing is hidden [adverb] except it be brought [verb, active] to light. .

The Purpose Of The Parables

Luke 8:17: For there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed [verb, participle], and nothing hidden that will not be known [verb, adjective] except [verb, active] come to light.

These verses do not indicate who does the deed; it is anonymous. Verbs are passive, except when they are explicitly related to light. All this is to show that it is not in our power to reveal or hide the secret of the Kingdom of God. The appearance of light is the work of Light.

Things are hidden, but with a purpose – to be revealed later at the right time. The kingdom of God is hidden, but it cannot remain so. All the revealed mysteries of the Gospel, the identity of Jesus and all his work of salvation, are aimed at revealing the Kingdom of God.

Remember that this parable follows the parable of the sower. In it, Jesus illustrates how faith is born and survives, while most of the sown seeds die in the soil (representing different people).

It is common for these people to receive the gift of faith (seed) as a one-time act, but they are not strong in it. Their faith is either cut off, starved to death or drowned.

All the sacrifices of the Old Testament symbolize Christ’s sacrifice for our salvation. Then he brings not only a grain offering, but also salt. Just as food without salt is unpalatable, salt made the sacrificial bread more palatable and adequately demonstrated how Christ’s sacrifice would be acceptable to God.

God spoke words against Israel’s unbelief to Ezekiel. Here the lack of salt represents the lack of faith.

Evangelism consists of communicating words [proclaiming Jesus] and actions [let your light shine] that correspond to daily tasks. Today we continue our series called Kingdom of God. It is a series dealing with parables. These are short earthly stories that teach about the eternal kingdom of God. So far we’ve heard that the kingdom of God is like hidden treasure—which, to be honest, sounds like a pretty good collection.

Why is the kingdom of God like a fish net? Before we look at this beautiful collection that teaches us some very important truths about the Kingdom of God, a prayer: Lord, strengthen us in the truth; Your word is true. In Jesus’ time, fishing is a little different. The fishermen pulled their nets ashore and went to the middle of the lake. Then they will cast a heavy net on the water. Then they would slowly move with the tide as the net dragged them to the bottom and pick up any fish in the net’s path. When they are done fishing, they pull in the lines, set the hooks and pull in the net.

When the fish is in the net, there is no separation between good and bad; maybe they are sorted when the hunt is over.

That’s how it will be at the end of the world. Angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into a fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (verses 49-50)

But – let’s be clear: the second half of the parable, the part about the fiery furnace and the angels, is not part of the parable.

Because… that network represents the Kingdom of God in action. And there is no bigger representation
