What Should We Pray For – Perhaps we put too much emphasis on prayer, which should be eloquent and long. Or maybe we spiritualize it too much. Sometimes we separate prayer from the rest of life; we look at it as something we do in prayer meetings or in quiet time.
It’s easy to wonder if there is a right way to pray, but all you have to do is talk. Simply tell God what is in your heart by talking to Him. God cares for you and wants you to share your life with Him.

How To Pray The Lord’s Prayer (our Father Prayer)
Sister Judith Ann, in her First Letter to the Thessalonians, points to the words of Saint Paul: “Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
“How blessed our life’s journey can be when we develop the habit of praying every day, even constantly, as Saint Paul taught us,” he said.
“In many ways this is a further deepening of the Practice of the Presence of God. The more aware we are of God’s presence in our lives, the more easily, naturally and often we will think about God, talk to Him, love Him, serve Him and serve Him in others throughout the day. In this way, our life can become a constant prayer.”
Sister Judith Ann said that this common practice of prayer helps us find our way and helps others find their way more clearly. He suggests four things to consider when praying:

The “five-finger prayer” was developed by Pope Francis long before he was elected pope. He published this prayer method as a way to make prayer more accessible and help people pray for those who need prayer the most. This is a simple but effective way of praying.
Finally, when you pray, draw out the good and the bad in your heart and pray for God’s will to be done.

Biblical prayers reflect a wide range of topics. People appeared before God for many different reasons—not just because of an upcoming interview or Aunt Sally’s hip replacement. Here’s a list of things we don’t think to pray about most of the time, but maybe we should pray about!

Prayers Against Enemies: They Will Not Survive After Saying Them
In the Bible’s most famous prayer, Jesus tells us to pray “lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one” (Matthew 6:13). This is a prayer that is repeated in various ways throughout the Bible (Psalm 19:13, Luke 22:40) and one that we should probably include in our prayers.
The author of Psalm 119 loves and desires God’s Word with a passion few of us can claim. He cries out to God: “Open my eyes to see wonders in your law” (Psalm 119:18).
Instead of looking at reading the Bible as a mere chore, let us pray that God will fill us with love for His Word and give us enough wisdom to understand what He has revealed (James 1:5).
Some of the most common requests we hear are for health needs – someone has a cold; someone’s arm is broken. . . But how often do we pray for the spiritual needs of our brothers in Christ?
If God Knows Everything, Why Should I Pray?
Paul ends his first letter to the Thessalonians with this prayer: “May the God of peace bless you completely. At the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, may your whole soul, soul and body be perfect. He who calls you is faithful, and he will do it” (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24).

Most of us know people we don’t always get along with in church because of personality, experience, or theological differences. However, Jesus’ last prayer before his death and resurrection was for unity in the church:
“I pray that all who believe in me through their message may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you” (John 17:20-21).
Why Should We Pray
Unity in the church that reflects the union of God the Father and God the Son? We don’t see this very often! But we can start praying about it!
While some of us live where there is a lot of freedom, some of us face more restrictions in living the Christian life and sharing the gospel. Perhaps that is why Paul insists to Timothy: “First, let requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be offered to all people – kings and all those in authority, so that we can lead a peaceful and quiet life in complete godliness and holiness.” (1 Timothy 2:1-2).
Let us pray for our national and regional leaders that God will bring peace through them and allow the gospel to flourish.
Let us pray for our brothers and sisters who are persecuted. All over the world, brothers and sisters face probation, house arrest, prison, and even death for obeying the Lord.
What Should We Pray For?
As the Hebrew author reminds us, “Let us continue to remember those in prison as if we were with them, and those who were mistreated as if we were suffering” (Hebrews 13:3). May God shorten the time of suffering and bring peace in the midst of trials.
Although we don’t think much about the end of the world, we look forward to the end of evil and suffering in this world. We long to be able to live fully and sinlessly with our God in the new heaven and new earth. So we pray that Christ’s kingdom will come forever (Matthew 6:10) as we encourage one another with these words (1 Thessalonians 4:18).
