As a Roman historian, Tacitus did not favor any Christians in his discussion of Nero’s persecution of Christians, Ehrman says. “Everything he says – from a completely different perspective, by a Roman writer who hated Christians and their superstitions – corresponds to what the New Testament itself says: Jesus was killed for crimes against Pontius Pilate, the governor of Judea.
