Why Should We Praise And Worship God – I was talking about the freedom we have to raise our hands in worship or not, depending on our cultural context. I don’t think the Bible requires us to use certain gestures or postures every time we pray or worship, but I am amazed at how much prayer and worship in the Bible involves the use of the body.
My natural inclination combined with my cultural upbringing leads me to think that connection with God happens mostly within a person. It’s about thoughts and feelings. Physical expression is unnecessary and random. However, throughout the Bible, prayer and worship take place through the body. The praying mantis not only raises its hands, but also stands, kneels, bows with its face to the ground, sings, shouts. Biblical worship of God is concerned with the inner personality, but is mostly expressed physically.
Why Should We Praise And Worship God
Why is it important for us to worship our bodies? I believe the answer comes from one’s biblical understanding. God did not create us as non-physical spirits who happen to have bodies as temporary shells. On the contrary, God created us as physical beings, souls with a body as an essential part of our being. Thus, our body and spirit are deeply connected. What we experience within deserves to be expressed in actions. And the actions of our bodies often affect and shape our hearts.

Therefore, it makes sense that God calls His people to love Him not only with their inner being, but also with their power (Deuteronomy 6:5). Jesus repeated this command when he said that we should love the Lord with all our heart, soul, and mind,
For me, certain physical acts of worship helped open my heart to the Lord. They have helped me to worship God more fully and honestly. Above all, I find that kneeling in prayer or worship can both express and strengthen my submission to God. When I sit, when I pray, I can still give myself sacrificially to the Lord. But when I actually kneel before Him, something changes not only in my posture but in my inner being. I am better able to love and worship God with all my heart, soul, mind and strength. Also, when I use my body to worship, I find myself better equipped to worship God with my body while living in the world.
“So, my dear brothers and sisters, I ask you to give your bodies to God for all that He has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice, as he sees fit. This is truly the way to worship him.” (Romans 12:1 NLT)
In the Holy Bible, worshiping God not only with our inner being, but also with everything, including our bodies, takes many concrete forms, including: standing, shouting, kneeling, singing, and raising hands. But the biblical view of the body in worship is actually much broader. It can include as many gestures, poses and actions as you can imagine. I’ll explain what I mean.
The Power Of Praise And Worship
Romans 12:1 tells us to give our bodies to God in return for all that He has done for us. In particular, we offer our bodies to the one who sacrificed himself in the body of Jesus on the cross. Our worship is always a response to God and what God has done for us.
According to this passage, we are to present our bodies as a “living and holy sacrifice.” The people of Israel were forced to offer various sacrifices to God, including food and animals. Romans 12:1 uses sacrificial imagery to explain how we are not to offer literal sacrifices, but rather offer ourselves as living sacrifices. We are not killed at the altar. Instead, we live for God and His purposes every moment of every day. In our lives we give ourselves to God. In our life we worship God.
Note that worshiping God is not just something we do when we gather in church with other believers. It is much more than what we can do during personal devotions. True worship, according to Romans 12:1, involves giving oneself to God daily. The actions of our bodies become instruments of worship as we live in the world for the glory of God.

Psalm 100:4 says, “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise.” This verse refers to Moses’ tabernacle in the wilderness. The tabernacle was divided into three parts. The outer court, the inner court, and the Holy of Holies, where God lived.
