Why Should We Worship God – This is one of the most interesting stories in the entire Bible. I’ve read it a few times before, but it felt like it was released this week when I read it. In fact, this one story has been “following” me all week… When I listen to Christian radio… During my prayer time… When I read my Bible… And even when I’m driving around town.

Why Should We Worship God
Why do we praise God? Let me share with you the scriptures. It is found in the Old Testament in 2 Chronicles 20. When God’s people faced an attack – a great war – from their neighboring countries, something amazing happened. The king (Jehoshaphat) begins to pray and seek Jehovah. And God assures him (and the people) that He will save them and they will not even fight. They must stop and see Jehovah’s salvation.
Bible Verses About Worship
So the next morning they go out to stand and rescue God. According to God’s command, the king puts a group of people in front of the congregation to sing and praise Jehovah. And this is when men praise and sing.
“At the same time that they began to sing and praise, God forced the armies of Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir to fight among themselves. (2 Chronicles 20:22, NLT)
At the same time, as they began to sing and praise God, God gave them victory! Hit me! This can, can and should be true in our life as well. Our praise can achieve great victory in our life.
How does this work? Also, why does this work? First… God loves to be praised. In fact, when we praise Him, He draws closer to us. They are really close! The Bible tells us that He lives in the praise of His people. (Psalm 22:3)
What Does It Mean To Worship
Second…Satan hates praise. Our sincere singing and worship will make Satan retreat. He hates praise and worship! “Satan does not like to be praised, so when there is great glory of victory, Satan is crippled, imprisoned and cast out.” Paul Billheimer
Third, our praise lifts the Lord up and puts our focus back where it should be. Praise helps us to lift our eyes from ourselves and from all that is happening around us and fix them on our Savior. Praise makes us look up! “If you look at the world, you will be sad. If you look inward, you will be depressed. But if you look at God, you will be calm.” Corrie Ten Boom

Fourthly, God blesses, saves, delivers, and helps where praise is given. I have seen this happen many times, both in scripture and in my own life. Whenever, wherever and in whatever situation a sweet compliment is given, a great victory has been achieved.

So how can you and I begin to appreciate more in our lives? First… Open your mouth and praise him. Say words of praise to God. Tell him you love him. Tell him how much you appreciate him.
Second… Use the scriptures to praise Him. Sometimes we don’t have the words to pray. We can turn to the Bible. Check out Psalm 144-150.
Third… Turn up the music of praise and sing! Grab your favorite mixtape, CD, or playlist. Start a Christian radio station. Turn on the music and sing along!

Fourth… Sing in your day. Get a song in your head and sing it throughout the day. It could be a favorite hymn, an old song or a favorite chorus.
Fifth… Silently raise your heart, hands and eyes to the sky. Here! Focus your attention on God. “We don’t know what to do, but we need your help.” 2 Chronicles 20:12, NLT

My name is Deb Zaif, and I helped found the Mothers’ Help Club with one goal in mind: to build a community where moms help moms understand the love of Christ. My upbringing was difficult and full of pain. I didn’t grow up in a Christian home, so when I became a Christian (and soon became a mother), I didn’t know what I was doing; I didn’t know what it meant to raise Christ-centered children, but I really wanted to learn.
I remember going into my daughter’s room every night and kneeling by her bed and crying out my heart to God because I didn’t know how to be a Christian mother; I felt like I didn’t know what to do. You know what? God is sure! He answered me and simply said, “Spend some time with me, Deb.” I did so. I wake up 15-30 minutes early every day to read my Bible and pray and plan my day with my family.

If there was one thing I wanted to share with you, it’s that God is human and He loves you just the way you are. You don’t have to be perfect to be loved by our amazing God! Come as you are! His loving presence can literally be felt and experienced. God is not far away, He is near and easy to find. He wants you to come to him!
